Every new venture brings challenges and
opportunities for “teachable moments.”
Among other things, as we put together
the inaugural issue of
The Sylvan Echo
we learned:
And, most importantly, that it’s hard to be flippant and grateful at the same time. (But
we're gonna work on that.)

We are truly grateful for and humbled by the faith and trust demonstrated by those
who shared their work with us. We hope you like what you see, that you'll tell all your
friends, and that you’ll be back. Our door's always open. We'll leave the light on for
you. Come in and sit a spell. Or, you know, something like that...
  • That everything takes longer than
    we think it will;
  • That a 1-3 week response time is
    insane;
  • That houseplants are sad after 1
    week of neglect and dead after 3;
  • To proofread documents before
    converting them to html;
  • That sleep is optional, and
    perhaps overrated;
  • The difficulties of making decisions
    and establishing a common
    aesthetic when the editors live in
    five different states;
  • How hard it is to say no;
  • That we must say no, even,
    sometimes, to work we really,
    really like;
